Eligibility: 
Scholarship will be awarded based on the student’s character, scholastic achievement, community involvement and essay skills. The applicant must be:

• Under 25 years old,

• Enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a two, or four, year college starting Fall of 2019

• A member of ASCA or the son, daughter or grandson/daughter of a member of ASCA.

The application packet must be received by ASCA, before May 15, 2024.

In addition to the completed Application, the applicant must also send the following five items to the same ASCA email address:

• One letter of recommendation from either the principal, guidance counselor or teacher of the high school or college from which the applicant will graduate and including size of class, student’s position in the class, and the student’s cumulative grade point average.

• A second letter of recommendation from an adult who can confirm the applicant’s community involvement that attest to the applicant’s character, conduct, citizenship, patriotism, and leadership.

• A certified transcript of the applicant’s high school or previous college grades.

• An original article/essay consisting of no more than 1,000 words (typed and double-spaced) on the subject of “Keeping our Community United.”

• Written verification by the ASCA President or Fire Chief of 10 hours of volunteer work for the ASCA or SoMoCo Fire Station #2.

 

Award: 

• Scholarship applications will be reviewed and awarded by a committee of ASCA Officers and Board of Directors. 

•  Scholarship amount is $1000.00, half of which will be paid directly to the school for the first semester/quarter upon notification from the school that the student has registered.  The balance of the award will be paid directly to the school upon notification from the school that the student has registered for the second semester/quarter. 

• No cash award will be payable directly to the student.

•  If the student discontinues their education before completing either of the semesters, the balance of the scholarship will be forfeited.
